90s Light Novel Garouden receives an Anime adaptation on Netflix.

Howdy! Anime Lovers, Get ready for some great news. Baku Yumemakura’s Light Novel Garouden receives an Anime adaptation on Netflix. On Monday, Netflix Japan released an official trailer on their YouTube channel to confirm the news. The anime titled “Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf” will debut worldwide on May 23 on Netflix. The trailer also revealed the staff and cast for the anime.

Staff and Cast

Adapted from Baku Yumemakura’s novel that inspired Jiro Taniguchi’s manga. Atsushi Ikariya (Sakura Internet Re-birth) is directing the anime while Daisuke Mataga (Samurai Champloo) is assisting as the assistant director at NAZ. Sadayuki Murai (Cowboy Bebop, Perfect Blue) is overlooking the script along with Momoko Kawai (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) and Ikariya as the character designers. Atsushi and Momoka will share the role of chief animation directors. Takeshi Ueda (Baki ONA) shoulders the music responsibility as he performs both the opening song “Fight and Pride” and the ending theme song “Cry Boy”

Garouden Anime follows Juzo Fujimaki who is running from his past crimes but is thrown into a match between elite group members. He must survive in the fight against these top martial artists.

Yumemakura’s novel series is divided into two parts, the first part was published from 1985 to 2001 and the second part was published from Dec 2006 to Oct 2020.

Jiro Taniguchi’s Manga was published from 1989 to 1990 then the second manga series by Keisuke Itagaki was published from 1996 to 2010.

A feature film adaptation directed by Masato Sasaki premiered on Jan 25, 1995.
