Let’s just face it, when generally asked about Shonen Genre or action anime, the first thing that comes to people’s mind is the mainstream anime like Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. The Mainstream anime overshadows a lot of action anime which is seriously underrated.

Most of the anime in the list are lesser known to people or just viewers couldn’t relate to the storyline. Whether in terms of nail-biting battle scenes, beautifully animated action sequences, or strategic battles these anime don’t lag in comparison to other mainstream anime. So here is my list of Top 15 underrated action anime that you must watch that are hidden gems.

But he gets caught in the mafia boss web and thus begins the turmoiled life of Makoto with lots of twists and turns that add edginess to the story.

The story of Bayron City and the demons surrounding it brings our protagonist into the limelight. Shu Ogata eliminates the demon lurking outside the city while running an army, protecting the lives of the people inside.

The blend of action with romance element kept me hooked all the time, properly executed action scenes are surely an underrated action anime.

With lots of plot twists and turns Samurai Flamenco contains the right amount of action. With its right amount of humor and heartfelt moments, I still believe people should look once into this underrated action anime.

The showdown between the high card wielders resulted in epic combat scenes and action sequences though it didn’t catch the attention of the general audience, Glad it caught mine.

The intense action scenes became my instant favourite with fluid-like animation and properly choreographed sequences. It has to be one of the most underrated action anime.

The long-running shounen is far darker than the average shounen anime, with a tactical fight sequence the action scenes are worth watching the time.

The lifelong mission to protect the land gives some immense fights with barrier techniques. The gem from the 2000s strikes great action sequences with amazing animation for that period in anime.

The story focuses on the Edo period of Japan, the period famous for sword fighting. The Protagonist Shicika Yasuri uses a secret sword fighting style known as Kyotouryuu, enabling him to use his body as a blade.

As Togame convinces Shichika to fetch the twelve legendary swords by master swordsmith Thus begins their journey.

The distinct combat combined with martial arts gives some fine-lined action scenes for the anime fans.

Satoru discovers the overlord and real people trapped in the game thus begins the battle of rescuing people and intense battle scenes.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world humans live inside the four walls, afraid of Kabane the flesh eaters. However, the protagonist Ikoma gets beaten by Kabana and transforms into a hybrid wielding the power of Kabane.

As the battle to save the human race continues, the frightening action scenes, blood baths, and gore continue. The well-animated fight scenes go unnoticed by the general viewers making it one of the underrated action anime on the list.

2.Tokyo Ghoul

Ghouls blending into humans and devouring them, the primary premise of the anime excited many anime lovers but still, it didn’t get the attention it deserved.

The plot delves into the life of Kaneki in Tokyo where ghouls are a rising threat, blending into the population. As teen faces hormonal changes, so does Kaneki.

Kaneki goes on a first date but it turns out horrificly and turns him into a human ghoul. As Kaneki sticks to his human side it gets harder and ignites the conflict between ghouls.

The battle between ghouls is just mesmerizing to explain, if you haven’t be sure to check it out.

The anime history presented us with multiple character sacrifices along with characters with doomed fates. But what saddened me the most is Hyakkimaru’s character in Dororo.

Unapologetically dark, Hyakkimaru’s father Lord Daigo barges into a deal with a demon and offers his unborn son’s body to prosper his land and kingdom.

Hyakkimaru is born without a body only with a skull, saved by a medicine man Hyakkimaru gains a prosthetic and lives a life to find the reason.

The sword fight between demons, Hyakkimaru, and the general people is just worth each second of your watch time. However people don’t value the gem.
