Kodansha ends Blade of the Immortal Sequel Manga on May 24.

Howdy! Manga Readers Let’s discuss some Manga-related news. On Thursday, Renji Takigawa (Yuriyuri San Hai) and Ryu Suenobu’s manga titled Blade of the Immortal- Bakumatsu Arc comes to an end in the next issue on May 24. Kodansha announced Hiroaki Samura’s Blade of the Immortal sequel Manga last issue in their June issue of Monthly Afternoon Magazine.

Bakumatsu Arc is set in the 19th century right after Edo Period and 80 years have flown since the battle with Itto-ryu. The Immortal Samurai Manji remains in seclusion in the Tosa Domain but is surprised by a visitor named Ryoma Sakamoto. Upon Ryoma’s request, Manji heads towards Kyoto for the first time but there awaits the strongest warriors of the time to confront him.

The Sequel of the original Samura’s Manga started serialization on May 25, 2019, in Kodansha shipped the ninth compiled book volume on November 22, 2023

Hiroaki Samura’s Blade of the Immortal (Mugen no Junin) debuted in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine Afternoon (Known for Attack on Titan Manga)in June 1993 and ended in December 2012. The Manga received an immense amount of love circulating five million copies by Feb 2017 and over 7.5 million copies by May 2019. 

In total of 207 chapters were collected into 30 tankoboon volumes and released from Sept 1994 to Feb 2013. Later Kodansha also released a 15 volume kanzenban edition in August 2016. The Manga also received multiple awards including the Excellence Prize at the first Japan Media Arts Festival in 1997 and, the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award in 2000.

Dark Horse Comics Release acquired the English version publication. The Manga’s first issue debuted on June 1, 1996, and was later collected into various volumes. Dark Horse Comics released the special edition, an omnibus edition of Blade of Immortal featuring one volume including three original volumes.

Samura also released a novel titled Blade of the Immortal: Legend of the Sword Demon in Kodansha in July 2008 while Dark Horse released the novel in 2010.

An Anime was announced in March 2008 and TV series was released in Sep 2009 and A live-action film was released in Feb 2017.
